Abstract
Over the month of October the number of filming permits issued for public land overseen by the Bureau of Land Management experienced a mild but characteristic drop. While 25 permits were closed compared to only 15 that were authorized, this was actually a positive trend compared to October, 2015. The net total of filming permits in October 2015 dropped by 23 compared to this last month’s drop of 10.
Nationwide Trends
In October 2016, 15 permits were authorized on public land overseen by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for filming purposes. This is compared to 7 authorized in October 2015. 188,757 acres were acquired with these 15 authorized permits. That is a increase of 188,721 acres in contrast to the 36 acres authorized in October 2015.
While 15 film site permits were authorized through the BLM in October, 25 permits were closed over the same month. This is a decrease of 5 permits as opposed to October 2015 when there were 30 closed permits. 841 acres were released with these 25 closed permits. This is 726.53 more acres released in October compared to the 114 released in the same month in 2015.

State Trends
California, Nevada, and Utah are the three most active states when ranked by total authorized filming permits on public land overseen by the BLM. California is the most active state with 169 authorized permits, accounting for 73.8% of the overall filming permits in the United States. This is 156 more permits than Nevada, the second most active state, which hosts 13 filming permits and accounts for 5.68% of the overall filming permits in the United States. Utah has 0 fewer permit than Nevada, making it the third most active state, with 13 filming permits—5.68% of the authorized filming permits overseen by the BLM.

Closed Permits In October
Utah, California, and Colorado had the most closed BLM film site permits over the course of October 2016. Utah is distinguished by its 16 closed permits, the most closed that month and 1 less than October 2016. This is 12 more permits than California, which lost 4 film site permits—a0 of 0 permits from last October. Colorado jettisoned 3 fewer permits than California. The 1 filming permits closed in Colorado are 1 greater than October last year.

Closed Permits In October
Grand, San Juan, and Inyo counties had the most closed BLM film site permits over the course of October 2016. Grand County, Utah is distinguished by its 9 closed permits, the most closed that month and 3 more than October 2015. This is 2 more permits than San Juan County, Utah, which lost 7 film site permits—an increase of 6 permits from last October. Inyo County, California jettisoned 5 fewer permits than San Juan. The 2 filming permits closed in Inyo County are 1 more than October last year.
