Abstract
March marked a noteworthy uptick in film permits authorized and pending on public land. The 21 authorized is a 250% increase compared to March 2015. Over half of these authorized permits are located in Utah—Grand, Utah in particular. There are an additional 26 pending filming permits, half of which are in Utah. While, permits closed in the same month exceed the number opened, the increase compared to 2015 is less dramatic.
Nationwide Trends
In March 2016, 21 permits were authorized on public land overseen by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for filming purposes. This is compared to 6 authorized in March 2015. 28,255 acres were acquired with these 21 authorized permits. That is a increase of 28,146.69 acres in contrast to the 109 acres authorized in March 2015.
While 21 film locations permits were authorized through the BLM in March, 38 permits were closed over the same month. This is a increase of 20 permits as opposed to March 2015 when there were 18 closed permits. 202 acres were released with these 38 closed permits. This is 869.88 fewer acres released in March compared to the 1,072 released in the same month in 2015.

State Trends
California, Utah, and Nevada are the three most active states when ranked by total authorized filming permits on public land overseen by the BLM. California is the most active state with 151 authorized permits, accounting for 72.6% of the overall filming permits in the United States. This is 135 more permits than Utah, the second most active state, which hosts 16 filming permits and accounts for 7.69% of the overall filming permits in the United States. Nevada has 3 fewer permit than Utah, making it the third most active state, with 13 filming permits—7.69% of the authorized filming permits overseen by the BLM.

Closed Permits In March
Utah, Nevada, and California had the most closed BLM film locations permits over the course of March 2016. Utah is distinguished by its 15 closed permits, the most closed that month and 10 more than March 2016. This is 4 more permits than Nevada, which lost 11 film locations permits—an increase of 6 permits from last March. California jettisoned 4 fewer permits than Nevada. The 7 filming permits closed in California are 3 greater than March last year.

Closed Permits In March
Clark, Grand, and San Juan counties had the most closed BLM film locations permits over the course of March 2016. Clark County, Nevada is distinguished by its 11 closed permits, the most closed that month and 6 more than March 2015. This is 2 more permits than Grand County, Utah, which lost 9 film locations permits—an increase of 6 permits from last March. San Juan County, Utah jettisoned 4 fewer permits than Grand. The 5 filming permits closed in San Juan County are 5 more than March last year.
